  Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council meets the UN Secretary-General's envoy to the Republic of Yemen

The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani, met on Tuesday, 8 January 2019, at his office in the GCC headquarters in Riyadh, HE Mr. Martin Griffiths, the UN Secretary-General's envoy to the Republic of Yemen, and the accompanying delegation.

During the meeting they discussed the latest political, security and humanitarian developments in the Republic of Yemen, and the efforts exerted by the UN envoy to implement the agreement reached in the consultations held in Sweden between the legitimate Yamani government and the Houthi group on the withdraw of the Houthis from Hodeidah, the strategic port city, and the ports on the west coast of Yemen.

The Secretary-General expressed the GCC appreciation and support for the efforts of the UN envoy, stressing the need for the United Nations to play a more effective role in forcing the Houthi Group to abide by the provisions of the Swedish agreement, and continue its efforts allowing humanitarian aid to reach the brotherly Yemeni people and alleviate their suffering.

The meeting was attended by, Mr.Madkhal Bin Dakhil al-Hathli, the GCC Secretary-General's envoy to Yemen.
