His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), welcomed the unanimous adoption of the resolution submitted by the State of Qatar, on behalf of the core group comprising Qatar and Costa Rica, on "the promotion and protection of the human rights of women and children in conflict and post-conflict situations" by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
His Excellency affirmed that this resolution reflects the high international standing of the State of Qatar in supporting issues of justice and fairness, consolidating the principles of international humanitarian law, and defending vulnerable groups in conflict zones around the world.
He praised the distinguished diplomatic efforts made by the State of Qatar, represented by its permanent mission to the United Nations in Geneva, which contributed to mobilising broad international support for this resolution.
He also stressed that the unanimous adoption of this resolution is an important step towards strengthening international mechanisms to ensure accountability and deter violations against women and children in conflict zones.
His Excellency Mr Albudaiwi called on the international community to build on this achievement by effectively implementing its provisions and providing the necessary support to protect and compensate the victims.
His Excellency concluded by emphasising that the Cooperation Council will remain an active partner in supporting all international initiatives aimed at promoting human rights, consolidating security and peace, and protecting human dignity everywhere.
