His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the Council always seeks a stable and secure environment and pursues constructive policies based on development and prosperity rather than wars and conflicts. He emphasised that these policies are built on enhancing mutual trust with regional and international partners, which has established the GCC as a reliable partner at all levels.
This statement came during HE the Secretary General’s participation in a session titled "The Middle East Beyond Zero-Sum Politics" on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. The session included His Excellency Mr Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and His Excellency Mr Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, on Saturday (April 18, 2026) in Antalya, Republic of Turkey.
During the session, HE the GCC Secretary General explained that the GCC has always been a partner in solutions based on diplomacy and dialogue, grounded in firm principles, foremost among them being respect for state sovereignty, non-interference, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, all of which bolster trust between nations.
Moreover, His Excellency addressed the treacherous Iranian attacks that targeted GCC states and the serious implications they have had on security and stability.
"These attacks have not altered the Council's policies toward development, stability, and supporting countries in need. The GCC states exerted significant efforts to prevent war, yet were blindsided by these unjustified and illegal Iranian attacks," His Excellency stressed.
He highlighted that the GCC has taken a proactive role in several regional files, led by the Palestinian cause and supporting international efforts to achieve a two-state solution, alongside providing humanitarian aid and political initiatives. "These roles embody the GCC's belief that regional and international stability is a shared responsibility," HE the Secretary General stated.
Furthermore, His Excellency pointed out that the role of regional organisations is an imperative necessity rather than a choice, stressing: “The success of such organisations is measured not only by their internal cohesion, but also by their ability to build bridges of cooperation and contribute effectively to global stability.
In this context, HE the Secretary General said that the GCC has embraced this responsibility with full seriousness, concluding 28 strategic partnerships with countries worldwide and cooperating with 8 regional organisations.
"Through these efforts, the GCC has consolidated its regional and international standing as an effective link contributing to dialogue, peace, and prosperity," His Excellency explained.
HE the GCC Secretary General concluded by affirming that the achievements of the Cooperation Council states are a source of pride for all, manifesting not only in economic growth but also in the capacity for resilience and to confront challenges.
"The GCC states, despite their varying sizes, have proven that joint action can achieve results beyond expectations and enhance their standing on the global stage, forming a regional system based on cooperation and integration that serves as an active element for global security," he added.
