His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), welcomed the resolution of the Legal Committee of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), adopted during its 113th session, which strongly condemned Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as its attacks and threats against vessels in the region and its aggressions against the territories of the GCC member states and Jordan. 

His Excellency further welcomed the Committee’s condemnation of Iranian threats regarding the laying of mines in and around the Strait of Hormuz, and the illegal fee system imposed on vessels transiting the Strait, according to reports received in this regard.

Moreover, His Excellency Mr Albudaiwi praised the pivotal role of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in drafting and preparing this significant resolution. He emphasised the necessity for the international community to implement this resolution in accordance with international law, ensuring the unhindered passage of vessels through the Strait.
