​His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with Her Excellency Ms Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, on Wednesday (April 15, 2026) in Brussels, Belgium.

At the beginning of the meeting, HE the Secretary General expressed his appreciation to the European Parliament for its supportive stance towards the GCC countries during these critical times, reflecting its firm commitment to the principles of international law.

The meeting also addressed regional and international developments, the repercussions of the treacherous Iranian attacks on the GCC countries, and the direct threat these attacks pose to the security and stability of the region, the safety of international navigation, and global energy supplies. 

In this context, Her Excellency the President of the European Parliament reiterated the European Parliament's support for the GCC countries in the face of these attacks. 

The two sides reviewed the Council’s proposal for a parliamentary cooperation mechanism that includes the legislative councils of the GCC countries with the European Parliament, with the aim of enhancing consultation and coordination, developing legislative cooperation, and building sustainable institutional capacities that enhance the role of parliaments in supporting development efforts and building stronger relationships.
