General Secretariat – Davos

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met today, Tuesday, January 20, 2026, with His Excellency Mr Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong. The meeting was held in Davos, Switzerland, on the sidelines of the 56th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting.

During the meeting, both parties explored avenues for bolstering joint economic and commercial cooperation and discussed strategies to encourage mutual investment flows between the GCC member states and Hong Kong.

Both sides underscored the strategic significance of GCC-China economic relations, noting that trade volume has reached approximately $300 billion, accounting for 20% of the GCC’s total trade. Furthermore, they expressed their shared commitment to concluding the negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
