His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), welcomed the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the "New York Declaration" draft resolution on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the achievement of the two-state solution.

His Excellency expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the French Republic for their tireless efforts on this resolution, also commending the prominent role of the working committees and international parties that contributed to the preparation of this important declaration.

He stressed that the adoption of this declaration will constitute an important step towards strengthening security, peace, and stability in the region and the world. "It represents a glimmer of hope towards ending the suffering of the Palestinian people and achieving their legitimate rights," His Excellency underlined. 

Finally, His Excellency Mr Albudaiwi underscored the firm position of the GCC countries in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to establish their independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.​
