His Excellency Mr. Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and His Excellency Mr. Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, affirmed the determination of both sides to move forward in strengthening the solid GCC-Brazilian relations.
This came during the official meeting that brought together His Excellency with the Brazilian Foreign Minister today, Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia.
At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency the GCC Secretary General presented an official letter from His Excellency Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar (the Presidency State), to His Excellency the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, which included an invitation to attend the first of its kind GCC-Brazilian Ministerial Meeting scheduled to be held next September in the city of Doha, the State of Qatar.
His Excellency the GCC Secretary General stated that this invitation expresses the desire of the Cooperation Council countries to enhance their strategic relations with the Federative Republic of Brazil in many fields that serve their common interests and achieve great benefits for their peoples, adding that it also comes within the framework of the Council countries' keenness to explore and open new horizons for cooperation on the one hand, and to strengthen their relations with countries and organisations across the world, on the other hand.
Furthermore, His Excellency the GCC Secretary General explained that His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, during the meeting, stressed his country's keenness to develop its distinguished relations with the Council countries and to push them towards broader horizons, revealing his aspiration to positively respond to the invitation extended to him to attend the first GCC-Brazilian meeting of its kind, and his confirmation that there are many opportunities available to activate the joint relations and benefit from them at all levels.
During the meeting, the relations between the countries of the Cooperation Council and Brazil and ways to develop and strengthen them were also reviewed, and a number of topics of common interest were discussed, including the Memorandum of Understanding and the joint action plan between the two sides, which are expected to be signed during the upcoming Ministerial meeting in September.
There was also a discussion and an exchange of views on the latest regional and international developments, and issues of common interest, including the current crisis in the Gaza Strip and the serious violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces, during which His Excellency affirmed that these violations have led to the expansion of the repercussions of the crisis, and have negatively and seriously affected the stability and security in the region and the world as a whole.
