His Excellency Mr. Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the 36th meeting of GCC Youth and Sports Ministers comes as a result of the great interest dedicated by Their Majesties and Highnesses the leaders of the GCC countries to the youth, considering their pivotal role in achieving the desired sustainable development, and Their emphasis on the need for continuous work to achieve the aspirations of the youth of the GCC countries, providing an environment conducive to creativity, innovation and excellence, continuing to further empower the youth in economic development, and optimal investment of human capital, especially in the youth, to benefit from their creativity and encourage them to lead towards the future.


HE the Secretary General’s statements came during a speech he delivered on the occasion of the 36th meeting of GCC Youth and Sports Ministers, held on Thursday (May 4, 2023), in the Omani capital Muscat, where the meeting was chaired by Her Excellency Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed bin Nassir Al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education of the Sultanate of Oman and Chairperson of the current session, and in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Mubarak Ibrahim Al Nakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and Youth of the United Arab Emirates, Her Excellency Ms. Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, Minister of Youth Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, His Excellency Mr. Badr bin Abdulrahman Al Kadi, Deputy Minister of Sports of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Mr. Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali, Minister of Sports and Youth of the State of Qatar, and His Excellency Mr. Abdulrahman Badah Al Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs of the State of Kuwait.

On the occasion. HE the Secretary General stated that Their Highnesses and Excellencies discussed the decision issued by the honourable Supreme Council of the GCC at its 43rd session held in Riyadh in December 2022, with respect to enhancing joint action towards digital transformation and modern technologies, and developing joint Gulf action in the youth field, in order to achieve the noble goals of the Cooperation Council, in addition to the importance of strengthening existing cooperation and partnership relations between the Cooperation Council, countries, and regional and international organisations in the youth field, as well as reviewing several topics on the agenda.

Furthermore, His Excellency stated that Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Ministers of Youth and Sports in the GCC countries concluded the meeting by extending thanks, appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Sultan of the Sultanate of Oman, for the warm reception and generous hosting of the 36th meeting of GCC Youth and Sports Ministers.
