Their Excellencies the Ministers of Agriculture of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held a meeting of the 32nd Agricultural Cooperation Committee, headed by HE Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (chair of the current session).
The meeting, which was held virtually on Monday (June 20, 2022), witnessed the participation of their Excellencies members of the Committee and HE Dr Nayef Falah M. Al Hajraf, Secretary General of the GCC.
During the meeting, a number of common GCC important topics related to joint cooperation in the fields of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and food security were discussed, in addition to taking decisions, including the adoption of a unified law (system) for managing plant genetic resources for food and agriculture, the approval of the amended law (system) on seeds and seedlings, in addition to the approval of the amended agricultural quarantine (system) law, the extension of the project for the development of sustainable production systems for date palms for one year, and approving the executive regulations of the law (system) of preventive measures against infectious and epidemic animal diseases in the GCC states.
The attendees also followed up on the unified procurement project for veterinary medicines and vaccines, and the central registration of veterinary products in the GCC states, as well as the approval of extending the study of the unified list of the minimum lengths allowed for fishing as indicative for a period of two years. They also discussed food security issues in light of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and other important related topics.
