HE Dr Nayef Falah M. Al Hajraf, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has welcomed the announcement of Mr. Josep Borrell, European High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, which was made on Wednesday (May 18, 2022), stipulating the adoption of the joint working paper of the European Parliament and the European Commission on the "Strategic Partnership with the GCC", with the aim of expanding and deepening cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the GCC.
HE the Secretary General stressed the keenness of the Cooperation Council to strengthen the Gulf-European strategic partnership and strengthen it in all fields to serve common interests, cooperate in bilateral and regional issues, and efforts to enhance security and prospects for sustainable development.
HE Dr Al Hajraf expressed his aspiration to work on realising the contents of the strategic partnership paper to strengthen the cooperation agreement concluded between both sides in 1988, seeking to advance Gulf-European relations towards broader and more welcoming horizons to serve common interests, maintain security and stability in the region and seize economic opportunities, in addition to enhancing trade and investment cooperation, advancing the paths of free trade negotiations, and strengthening coordination and partnership in facing challenges that threaten global security and stability.
