In a speech before the 39th session of Human Rights Council, the GCC commended the role of the Yemeni National Commission of Inquiry and its fifth report, issued in 2018. It called on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to cooperate with the commission as well as to provide it with the necessary technical and material support, which would contribute to the success of its work and enable it to complete its tasks.

In the context of the interactive dialogue session held with the High Commissioner for Human Rights on the report of the situation of human rights in Yemen, HE Hamad bin Rashid Al Marri, Assistant Secretary General for Legislative and Legal Affairs at the GCC Secretariat General, stressed in his speech the prominent role played by the United Nations humanitarian organizations in Yemen as well as Yemeni local organizations.

In addition, The GCC commended the significant role played by the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action, the Office of Humanitarian and Relief Assistance Coordination provided by the GCC for Yemen in order to alleviate civilian suffering caused by the Houthi coup of on legitimacy.

The GCC expressed its disappointment at today's deliberate obstruction by the Houthi militias of all peace initiatives aimed at finding a political solution in Yemen, the last of which was the refusal to participate in the Geneva consultations while continuing to fire ballistic missiles on Saudi Arabia as well as targeting humanitarian workers.

The GCC called for supporting the United Nations efforts to reach a peaceful solution in Yemen; based on the relevant Arab and international references, and stressed on the need to implement Security Council Resolution 2216 and the related resolutions, complete the implementation of the Gulf Initiative and its operational mechanisms and the Yemeni National Dialogue.
