His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with His Excellency Mr Luigi Di Maio, European Union (EU) Special Representative for the Gulf Region, on Tuesday (22 September 2026), on the sidelines of His Excellency's participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States of America.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed several topics of mutual interest, primarily GCC-European relations. They examined the ongoing preparations for the Second Summit between Their Majesties and Highnesses, the Leaders of the GCC States, and the Leaders of the European Union (EU), scheduled to convene next month in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Discussions also addressed agenda items related to the upcoming summit, the progress achieved in executing the outcomes of the inaugural GCC-EU Summit, and operational mechanisms aimed at advancing the strategic partnership between the Council and the EU.
Furthermore, both sides exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments.
