His Excellency Mr António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), received His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), on Saturday (19 September 2026), on the sidelines of His Excellency the GCC Secretary General's participation in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States of America.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed ties between the GCC and the UN, exploring avenues to deepen and consolidate bilateral collaboration in service of shared interests.
They also exchanged perspectives on unfolding geopolitical shifts, during which both officials strongly condemned the Houthi militia’s attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and their deliberate targeting of civilian objects, underscoring the severe threat these hostile actions pose to regional peace and security. Furthermore, discussions addressed several pressing regional issues and the diplomatic endeavors dedicated to resolving them.
For his part, the UN Secretary-General commended the substantial progress and prosperity achieved by GCC member states, praising their proactive contributions toward fostering enduring stability worldwide.
