Under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the GCC General Secretariat and the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (NRRC) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was held today, Monday (31 August 2026), at the General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh.
The GCC General Secretariat was represented at the signing ceremony by His Excellency Brigadier Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, Assistant Secretary General for Security Affairs at the GCC General Secretariat, while the Saudi NRRC was represented by His Excellency Dr Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Issa, CEO of the Commission.
On this occasion, His Excellency the GCC Secretary General stated that the MoU signed between both sides aims to bolster and develop areas of joint cooperation and coordination in nuclear and radiological safety and security, as well as protection against nuclear and radiological risks and emergencies.
His Excellency further added: "The agreement comes within the framework of supporting joint Gulf action and exchanging expertise and information in relevant fields, contributing to cementing readiness and response to nuclear and radiological emergencies, elevating the level of coordination among competent authorities across the GCC member states, leveraging the expertise and capabilities available at the Saudi NRRC, as well as developing joint cooperation mechanisms to reinforce the nuclear and radiological safety and security ecosystem across the GCC states."
In conclusion, His Excellency stated that the MoU encompasses several areas of cooperation between the two sides, most notably organising mutual visits among experts and specialists, benefiting from conferences, symposia, and workshops, in addition to conducting research and studies in this domain.
