His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with His Excellency Mr Pedro Manuel Moreno, Acting Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) in Geneva, Swiss Confederation.
During the meeting, a number of topics of common interest were addressed, most notably cooperation relations among the Cooperation Council and UNCTAD, as well as ways to support and develop them across all trade and economic fields, serving common interests.
HE the Secretary General also reviewed joint GCC customs efforts, which contribute to bolstering economic integration among the Cooperation Council states, pointing out that they have a number of future economic initiatives among them.
For his part, HE the Acting Secretary General of UNCTAD commended the approach and efforts undertaken by the GCC states to secure and strengthen supply chains during the current crisis in the region.
A number of proposals were also discussed during the meeting, including holding workshops between the GCC and UNCTAD on customs-related matters to exchange expertise in this field, in addition to organising training courses in trade and the blue economy, as well as joint events.
The latest regional and international developments and their implications for the economic and trade fields were also reviewed, particularly with regard to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, including the many challenges facing supply chains.
