Her Excellency Ms Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), received His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) in Geneva, Swiss Confederation.



At the beginning of the meeting, Her Excellency reviewed the ongoing efforts exerted by the ICRC in providing support and assistance to those affected in many areas impacted by wars and crises, in order to alleviate their suffering and ensure the provision of the necessities of a dignified life in accordance with international humanitarian standards. She also commended the significant and valuable role played by the GCC states in supporting humanitarian and relief work.

From his side, His Excellency the GCC Secretary General stated that the GCC states attach great importance to humanitarian and relief work, stemming from the firmly established principles and values upon which they were founded. He underscored that the GCC states have been, and continue to be, among the largest supporters of humanitarian and development efforts at the regional and international levels, through the implementation of initiatives and the provision of urgent and development assistance, in a way that contributes to alleviating the suffering of those affected across various crisis areas.

The two sides also affirmed the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation between the GCC General Secretariat and the International Committee of the Red Cross in order to support joint humanitarian efforts and exchanging expertise in areas of common interest, while serving noble humanitarian objectives and cementing security and stability in the region and the world.
