His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that in implementation of the directives of Their Majesties and Highnesses the Leaders of the GCC States issued at their 19th Consultative Meeting (Jeddah, 28 April 2026), the Agricultural Cooperation and Food Security Committee held an extraordinary meeting today for Their Excellencies the Ministers concerned with agriculture and food security in the GCC states, to discuss ways to enhance agricultural and food cooperation among GCC countries.
This came in a statement made by His Excellency following the conclusion of the extraordinary meeting of the Agricultural Cooperation and Food Security Committee today, Thursday (2 July 2026), held via videoconference. The session was chaired by His Excellency Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture of the Kingdom of Bahrain, with the participation of Their Excellencies the Ministers of Agriculture and Food Security of the GCC states.
His Excellency Mr Albudaiwi explained that this meeting occurred within the framework of bolstering the Gulf food security system and elevating the level of integration and coordination among member states, thereby contributing to cementing the capacity to face regional and international challenges and variables affecting food supply chains.
Furthermore, His Excellency emphasised that the GCC states attach strategic importance to the food security file, driven by their conviction that this issue is one of the fundamental pillars of national security and sustainable development. He pointed out that following Their Excellencies' endorsement of the work of the General Secretariat's Higher Committee, the General Secretariat will communicate and coordinate with competent authorities in member states to develop a number of initiatives and proposals related to this aspect.
