Ms Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, received His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), today, Monday (13 July 2026), in the Belgian capital, Brussels.
During the meeting, several topics were addressed, most notably exploring ways to bolster the prospects of strategic relations between the GCC and the EU, alongside exchanging views on the ongoing escalation in the region and its resulting implications.
Both sides underlined the necessity of intensifying international efforts aimed at de-escalation to protect regional security and stability. They also stressed the significance of the security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, recognising it as a vital international waterway essential for global economic stability and the uninterrupted flow of trade and energy supplies.
