His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with His Excellency Mr Pablo Hernández de Cos, General Manager of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), today, Tuesday (October 13, 2026), in the Thai capital, Bangkok, on the sidelines of His Excellency’s participation in the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG).
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed several issues of common interest, foremost of which were ways to bolster relations and cooperation between the GCC and the Bank for International Settlements in the banking sector. They also explored proposals to organise periodic meetings to exchange expertise between the BIS and the GCC across various banking fields and associated financial technologies.
It is worth noting that the GCC Committee of Central Bank Governors had resolved, during its latest meeting, to intensify cooperation with international institutions—including the Bank for International Settlements—particularly in the areas of banking supervision and regulation.
