His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with His Excellency Mr Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, today, Thursday, September 11, 2025, in the city of Sochi, Russian Federation. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 8th Strategic Dialogue meeting between the GCC countries and the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, several topics were discussed, most importantly the strengthening of Gulf-Russian relations within the framework of the Strategic Dialogue established by the two sides in 2011. Additionally, they exchanged views on the mechanisms to accelerate the implementation of the Joint Action Plan (2023-2028) among the GCC countries and the Russian Federation.
The latest developments and situations in the region were also discussed, and views were exchanged. His Excellency the GCC Secretary General praised Russia's positions, especially regarding its support for ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip and protecting the brotherly Palestinian people, in addition to its strong condemnation of the dangerous operation carried out by Israeli occupation forces on the territory of the sisterly State of Qatar.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides affirmed their aspiration and support for all efforts to elevate Gulf-Russian relations to broader horizons in order to protect the common interests of the peoples of both sides.
