His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with Her Excellency Ms Izumi Nakamitsu, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, in the Qatari capital, Doha, on the sidelines of the 23rd session of the Doha Forum.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed ways to strengthen relations between the GCC and the UN in the fields of disarmament, peace, and security, in addition to discussing a number of proposed projects and initiatives between the two sides.
Moreover, His Excellency affirmed the GCC’s stance on disarmament, emphasising the importance of stability and the necessity of the region being a nuclear-weapon-free zone.
He expressed his anticipation for joint cooperation between the UN and the GCC Emergency Management Centre in this field.
