His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), commended the distinguished content presented by the pavilions of the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Sultanate of Oman, showcased alongside the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), stating that these pavilions reflect the significant development of economic, investment, and tourism projects in the GCC states.

This commendation came during His Excellency’s visit to these pavilions while participating in the 55th Annual Meeting of the WEF, where he met with several honourable ministers and officials representing the member states on Monday (January 20, 2025) in Davos.

HE the Secretary General also praised the efforts of those responsible for the pavilions, which serve as an exceptional model for introducing the international community to the investment opportunities and strategic partnerships offered by the GCC countries, noting that such initiatives enhance their standing as a global economic and tourism destination while contributing to the ambitious vision of the Council for the future and strengthening cooperation with the international community to achieve sustainable development and prosperity for the peoples of the region.

His Excellency affirmed that these pavilions not only reflect the leadership of the GCC member states in the fields of investment and tourism but also constitute a strategic platform for enhancing their presence at major international forums, as they underscore the vast potential and promising investment opportunities available, positioning the GCC as an indispensable global partner in achieving sustainable development.

In conclusion, HE the Secretary General highlighted the vital role these pavilions play in showcasing the economic and cultural strength of the GCC states, enhancing communication with the international community through the establishment of effective strategic partnerships. He added that these participations represent a genuine reflection of the ongoing GCC ambition to achieve a leading status at both regional and global levels.

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and Mr Aidaroos Al Zubaidi, Deputy Head of the Presidential Leadership Council in the Republic of Yemen and President of the Southern Transitional Council, met today, Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in Davos, Switzerland.  

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, focused on collaborative efforts to support a political solution in Yemen, aiming to restore stability, foster development, and ensure the prosperity of the Yemeni people.

The discussion covered several key topics, including the latest developments in Yemen.  Particular emphasis was placed on the valuable efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman to achieve peace in Yemen, and the importance of supporting these endeavors.

During the meeting, His Excellency the GCC Secretary General reaffirmed the Council's unwavering support for the Yemeni people, stressing the commitment to assisting Yemen in restoring security and stability, and embarking on a path of sustainable development.  

This commitment includes ensuring the Yemeni people live with dignity, peace, and security.  His Excellency the GCC Secretary General also highlighted the GCC's support for the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council to enhance security and stability within the country.  

Furthermore, he reiterated the GCC's dedication to supporting all international and regional efforts, including those of the United Nations, to achieve a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis, based on the three key references: the Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and His Excellency Mr Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, discussed topics of cooperation between the two sides, foremost among them the second GCC-ASEAN Summit. They also covered several economic and cultural fields and the strengthening of communication between peoples, serving the mutual goals and interests.

This meeting took place on Tuesday (January 21, 2025) in the Swiss city of Davos, on the sidelines of the 55th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025.

During the meeting, a number of topics were discussed, most notably the review of Gulf-Vietnamese relations and ways to develop and enhance them to serve common interests. The free trade agreement between the two sides was also discussed, recognising the mutual benefits for their peoples, in addition to exchanging views on the latest developments on the regional and international arenas.

At the conclusion of the meeting, HE the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam extended an official invitation to HE the Secretary General of the GCC to visit the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the upcoming period.

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with His Excellency Mr Alexandre Fasel, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, on Tuesday (January 21, 2025), in the Swiss city of Davos, on the sidelines of the 55th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025.

During the meeting, they discussed the development of relations between the GCC and the Swiss Confederation, aiming to enhance and open new horizons for joint cooperation. The meeting also witnessed an exchange of views on regional and international situations and developments.

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC),  praised the prominent role played by the State of Qatar in facilitating the prisoner exchange between the United States and Afghanistan.  He stressed that these efforts reflect Qatar's strong position and its pivotal role in strengthening regional and international security and stability.

Moreover, His Excellency noted that Qatar's successful mediation serves as a model for resolving international disputes through peaceful and constructive means, in accordance with international principles and treaties. He also explained that this initiative highlights the positive role of the GCC countries as reliable partners in achieving global peace and security, and strengthens the impact of Gulf diplomacy on regional and international levels.

Furthermore, His Excellency expressed his pride and appreciation for the ongoing efforts of the GCC states in resolving conflicts and bridging divides, as well as their continued support for countries regionally and internationally. He affirmed that these prominent roles undertaken by the GCC states are now appreciated and respected by all parties worldwide for their contribution to strengthening peace, stability, and understanding among peoples.

General Secretariat - DavoHis Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), met with His Excellency Mr Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), today, Monday, January 20, 2024, on the sidelines of the 55th annual meeting of the 2025 World Economic Forum. 

At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency welcomed the participation of the His Excellency the Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR in the meeting of the esteemed finance ministers of the GCC countries in May, which aims to enhance relations between the two sides.

During the meeting, several topics were discussed, notably the relations between the GCC and Hong Kong, and ways to develop and strengthen them in all areas, especially in economic and investment sectors to achieve mutual goals. The discussion also included the Free Trade Agreement between the GCC countries and Hong Kong.

Moreover, both sides reviewed the participation of the GCC in the Gulf Dialogue session held as part of the 2025 Asian Financial Forum sessions in Hong Kong, commending the outcomes of this session, which was held for the first time within the forum's sessions.

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), emphasised the deep-rooted historical ties and strategic partnerships between the GCC states and India across various sectors, stating that both sides constantly strive to strengthen these partnerships.

Speaking at the Kochi Dialogue 2025, themed "India's Look West Policy in Action: People, Prosperity and Progress" today, Thursday, January 16, 2025, His Excellency the GCC Secretary General highlighted the event's significance in fostering cooperation between the India and the GCC. 

He described the dialogue as a real opportunity and valuable platform for exploring mutually beneficial areas of collaboration, facilitating exchange between policymakers, diplomats, researchers, thinkers, and public and private sector investors.

He stressed the crucial role of the strategic partnership between the GCC and India in key areas such as trade, energy, technology, and education, in achieving economic stability, regional prosperity, and collaborative efforts to address global economic challenges like climate change and food security. Moreover, His Excellency emphasised that joint GCC-India efforts will be fundamental to achieving sustainable economic and social development.

He further detailed the long-standing historical relationship between the Gulf and India, dating back centuries. He noted India's importance as a vital trading partner for the Gulf region since the 18th century, particularly in trade, culture, and education, with Bombay (now Mumbai) serving as a major economic hub for Gulf traders. 

His Excellency Mr Albudaiwi also acknowledged the strong human and cultural ties, and the contributions of prominent Gulf figures to educational and charitable institutions in India, further strengthening cultural bonds.

Looking ahead, His Excellency highlighted key areas for future focus, including collaboration in technology and innovation within the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. 

He underscored the importance of cooperation in artificial intelligence, fintech, and renewable energy for sustainable development. He also stressed the need to prioritise combating climate change and enhancing food security, advocating for the development of sustainable food supply chains and new technologies for water resource management.

He also addressed the ongoing free trade negotiations between the GCC and India, underscoring the importance of accelerating these talks to remove trade barriers, open new markets, and enhance cooperation in digital economies and industrial transformation.

On the economic front, he noted the significant growth in trade relations between the GCC and India in recent years. 

"Bilateral trade reached approximately $174.2 billion in 2022, representing about 11.3% of the GCC's total trade. GCC exports to India totaled around $90.8 billion, reflecting India's importance as a key trading partner," he highlighted.  

His Excellency also pointed out that Gulf investments in India have exceeded $5.72 billion, contributing significantly to economic development and growth in both regions, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth, making India a vital strategic partner for the GCC.

In conclusion, His Excellency Mr Albudaiwi expressed optimism about the future of GCC-India relations, emphasising that these ties, built on a long history of collaboration, are now focused on addressing global challenges requiring the highest levels of cooperation and harmony among nations.

​His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

His Excellency expressed his hope that this agreement would contribute to restoring security and peace in the Gaza Strip, ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to its residents, and facilitating the return of displaced persons to their homes. 

This follows 15 months of war waged by Israel against the Strip, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians, the destruction of infrastructure—including hospitals, schools, and places of worship—and an unprecedented deterioration of the humanitarian situation.

Moreover, His Excellency praised the significant efforts undertaken by the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the United States of America, and their diligent work with all concerned parties to reach this agreement.

Furthermore, His Excellency reiterated the unwavering stance of the Cooperation Council states regarding the Palestinian cause and their support for the national rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the guarantee of the rights of refugees.​

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), affirmed that the allocation of a Gulf dialogue session within the Asian Financial Forum 2025 in Hong Kong underscores the economic position of the GCC countries in regional and international forums.  

This statement came during HE the Secretary General’s speech at the Gulf dialogue session, which was held as part of the Asian Financial Forum 2025 sessions in Hong Kong on Tuesday (January 14, 2025), with the participation of the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and a number of senior economic officials from the GCC countries.  

His Excellency stated that this session aims to highlight opportunities for enhancing joint cooperation between the GCC countries and the Hong Kong region, which share historical and economic ties. He emphasised that the Asian Financial Forum 2025 serves as an important platform that brings together thought leaders and decision-makers from around the world, representing a pioneering platform for exchanging knowledge and developing strategic partnerships in the realm of finance and business.  

Commenting on the occasion, HE the Secretary General said “The GCC countries hold a significant economic status globally, with the GDP of the GCC countries reaching approximately USD 2.1 trillion in 2023. It is projected that the GDP of the GCC will reach USD 6 trillion by 2050. The total sovereign financial assets in the GCC countries amounted to around USD 3.2 trillion, accounting for 33% of the total sovereign assets worldwide.”

He continued: “The GDP per capita is approximately USD 36,700. In terms of reserve assets, the foreign reserves of the GCC countries at the end of 2023 reached nearly USD 748 billion, achieving the fifth position globallyFurthermore, the market capitalisation of the Gulf financial markets in 2023 was approximately USD 4.4 trillion, while the total assets of commercial banks operating in the GCC amounted to about USD 3.2 trillion by the end of 2022. These figures reflect the economic strength of the GCC countries.”

Moreover, His Excellency highlighted that the GCC countries hold the top global ranking in crude oil reserves and production, and also lead in natural gas reserves, while ranking third globally in natural gas production. He underscored that the GCC's balanced policies have contributed to the stability of energy markets by providing secure and stable supplies of oil and gas to global markets.

Additionally, HE the Secretary General mentioned that the GCC's significant economic potential creates numerous opportunities for cooperation with Hong Kong, a leading Asian financial centre. 

"This collaboration reflects a shared vision to promote innovation and sustainability in financial and economic activities, as well as to develop trade, investment, fintech, education, and other vital sectors forming the basis of the future knowledge-based economy," he explained. 

Besides, His Excellency reviewed several joint Gulf projects, most notably the 2100-kilometer GCC railway project and the GCC electricity interconnection project. He stressed that these projects offer promising opportunities for the business and finance sectors to develop and invest, particularly in localising industries related to their construction, operation, and maintenance. 

He also confirmed the signing of an agreement to sell electricity to the Republic of Iraq, and the existence of plans to expand interconnection and electricity trade with numerous regional and international countries. He noted that the GCC also launched the Gulf Payments Company, enabling swift, instant, low-cost financial transfers in local GCC currencies and other currencies within a secure and stable environment. His Excellency stated that these and other projects form a strong foundation for enhancing cooperation between the GCC countries and Hong Kong in the future.

In closing, His Excellency reiterated that this dialogue session will provide a unique opportunity for productive discussions and strategic insights to strengthen ties between the GCC countries and Hong Kong. "It will also be an opportunity to showcase available opportunities and explore ways to enhance cooperation between both sides, serving mutual interests and promoting sustainable growth in the region, benefiting all parties and enhancing the Gulf region's standing on the global economic stage," he concluded.​

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the Cooperation Council is keen to participate in the Asian Financial Forum 2025, which offers numerous opportunities for discussing financial issues and global economic challenges, as well as presenting solutions and finding initiatives and ​ideas that will contribute to revitalising economies in the region.

This was during his participation in the opening session of the Asian Financial Forum 2025 on Monday (January 13, 2025) in Hong Kong, with the presence of a number of ministers, senior officials, policy-makers, investors and businessmen from over 50 countries, in the period from January 13 to 14, 2025.

HE the Secretary General stated that the General Secretariat’s participation of the Council in this forum comes from its keenness to know about the latest developments in the regional and global financial scene, which can be beneficial for developing and enhancing the financial sector, and which positively reflects on their economies.

He added that for the first time, the forum will witness a special panel discussion session dealing with the GCC states on January 14, 2025, which will be jointly organised by the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority the Hong Kong Treasury and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

His Excellency stated that this joint session comes within the continued efforts of the Cooperation Council member states and Hong Kong to cooperate and strengthen financial and economic ties in areas of investment and trade between the two sides.
