General Secretariat – Riyadh

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), condemned in the strongest terms the Houthi terrorist attack on a number of regions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the resulting fall of debris from the interception of two ballistic missiles in Wadi Al Mughammas in Makkah, alongside interception shrapnel falling in locations across the governorates of Jeddah, Taif, and Rabigh.

His Excellency stressed that this heinous attack by the Houthi terrorist militia embodies a blatant disregard for the lives and security of civilians, and constitutes a criminal escalation that threatens regional security and stability.

He underscored that exposing Makkah to the dangers of these attacks represents a highly dangerous violation of the sanctity of the holy sites and a provocation to the sentiments of Muslims worldwide, which cannot be justified or tolerated under any pretext.

Furthermore, His Excellency the Secretary General affirmed that the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an integral part of the security of the GCC states. He stated that the GCC states stand united alongside the Kingdom in confronting these attacks and back all measures it undertakes to protect its territories and safeguard the security of its citizens and residents.

His Excellency concluded his statement by commending the vigilance and efficiency of the Saudi air defences in intercepting and confronting the Houthi terrorist attacks, calling on the international community to take a firm stance and implement effective measures to put an end to these heinous assaults.
