Page ContentHis Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), received Her Excellency Ms Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Chairperson of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) and Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) in the State of Qatar, on Tuesday (August 27, 2024) at the General Secretariat’s headquarters in Riyadh.During the meeting, a number of topics were discussed, most notably the cooperation between the GCC General Secretariat and the NHRC. The discussion emphasised the significance of collaboration between regional networks of national human rights institutions in the GCC countries, as well as partnerships within the United Nations system. The officials also noted to the need to highlight the essential role played by national human rights institutions and joint Gulf action in this field, aligning with the directives of Their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC countries, in preserving and safeguarding human rights as well as providing all possible support and assistance for the benefit and advancement of the peoples of the Cooperation Council countries.
