  HE GCCSG: The Signing of a Joint Statement to Initiate Free Trade Negotiations Between the GCC and the Republic of Turkey Is a Demonstration of the Robust and Strategic Partnership Between Both Sides

His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the signing of a joint statement to initiate free trade negotiations between the Cooperation Council and the Republic of Turkey is a demonstration of the robust and strategic partnership between the GCC countries and Turkey. It also showcases the successful cooperation achieved at regional and international levels across various sectors, including commerce, economics, and finance.

This came as HE the Secretary-General, along with His Excellency Dr. Omer Bolat, Minister of Trade of the Republic of Turkey, signed the agreement to commence negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the Cooperation Council and Turkey on Thursday (March 21, 2024), in Ankara, Turkey.

His Excellency emphasised the significance of close cooperation between Turkey and the GCC countries to enhance economic relations and expressed their mutual desire to expand trade, investment, and cooperation. He underscored that the GCC countries are actively engaged in free trade negotiations with other nations to open up trade opportunities, promote economic cooperation regionally and globally, and create strong markets for goods and services provided by the GCC countries, adding that these agreements are part of the GCC efforts to diversify income sources and foster economic growth.
