HE the GCCSG: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Hosting of Several International Events and Conferences Was Only Possible Through Diligent Work, an Insightful Vision for the Future and the Directives of the Kingdom’s Wise Leadership

General Secretariat - Riyadh
His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s hosting of several international events and conferences was only possible through diligent work, an insightful vision for the future and armed with the directives of the wise leadership of the Kingdom.

This came during His Excellency’s participation in the Third Saudi Media Forum, today, held on Tuesday (February 20, 2024), in the city of Riyadh, on February 20-21, 2024, with the participation of a number of Their Highnesses, Excellencies, dignitaries and media professionals from countries around the world.

During his speech, HE the Secretary General stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which aims to build a prosperous future for future generations, is based on the values of hard work, persistence, and innovation.

He further said that the Kingdom has hosted many international events and conferences that embody its aspirations towards a bright future, underlining that this ambitious outlook embraces progress and innovation, and is the result of a wise, forward-looking vision from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, as well as the sincere and continuous efforts of the Saudi people.

His Excellency stressed that the Saudi Media Forum in its third edition, which brought together more than 2,000 media professionals from various countries of the world, and the accompanying media exhibitions, sessions and workshops, is a true indication of the advanced and distinguished position the Saudi media has reached on the global media map.

Moreover, he stressed that the joint Gulf media aspect has been given attention since the first moment of the founding of the GCC, as the statute stipulated in its fourth article (cooperation and the establishment of similar systems in media affairs). His Excellency explained that this comes in recognition of the leaders of the founding Council countries and the importance of joint Gulf media work, noting to the necessity of unifying media policies and the efforts of Gulf media institutions to come up with unified media visions that serve and take into account the goals and mission of establishing the Cooperation Council.

HE Mr Albudaiwi added: “Media cooperation between the GCC countries not only enhances our image before the world but also paves the way for greater rapprochement and understanding between our peoples, contributing to the realisation of our common dreams towards the future, for more progress and prosperity, and enhancing solidarity and integration. Accordingly, in light of the boom witnessed by social media on one hand and many parties adopting policies to broadcast false information on the other hand, it has become imperative for our GCC to confront these toxic media waves to protect our people, especially the youth, from false information and the many harms it carries.”
