  HE the GCCSG: The Preliminary FTA between the Council and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Comes in Recognition of the Importance of Strengthening Trade Relations and Economic Cooperation with Countries and International Blocs

His Excellency Mr Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the preliminary Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the GCC and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan comes in recognition of the importance of strengthening trade relations and economic cooperation with countries and international blocs.


His Excellency's statement came during the signing ceremony of the preliminary FTA between the Cooperation Council and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, with the agreement being signed by both His Excellency the Secretary General of the GCC and His Excellency Dr Gohar Ejaz, Minister of Commerce of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh. 

His Excellency the Secretary General noted that this historic economic agreement represents an important turning point in cooperation and would contribute to growth and prosperity in a way that serves the common interests of both sides, as it emphasises the vital importance of close cooperation between countries to strengthen economic relations.

Moreover, His Excellency stressed that the GCC countries are moving forward with the file of free trade negotiations with other countries, aiming to open and enhance the prospects for trade and economic cooperation for the Council member states regionally and internationally.

Finally, His Excellency the Secretary General expressed his thanks and appreciation to the negotiating teams from the GCC countries and the General Secretariat for their efforts and dedication during the negotiation process, up to signing the agreement.
