Page ContentHis Excellency Mr. Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that the strategic partnership between the Cooperation Council countries and the United States is based on strong historical ties, common interests and a belief in working to maintain security and stability in the region.This came during the joint ministerial meeting between the GCC countries and the United States of America, held on Monday (September 18, 2023) on the sidelines of the meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in the United States.The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, Chairman of the current session, and with the participation of His Excellency Mr. Anthony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States of America.HE the Secretary General confirmed that views were exchanged during the meeting on several international issues with complete transparency, and the American side was also informed of the statement issued by the Ministerial Council of Their Highnesses and Excellencies the GCC Foreign Ministers in their coordination meeting on Sunday, related to the latest updates in the current developments with the sisterly Republic of Iraq, with regards to the ruling of the Federal Supreme Court and the negative effects resulting from this ruling.During his speech, His Excellency also mentioned that the GCC countries and the United States had held five joint summits, noting that the meetings at the ministerial level included clear directives on the progress and development of the partnership between both sides and that there are more than 10 working groups and joint task forces between the GCC countries and the United States covering several important and vital areas of cooperation between the two sides.HE Mr Albudaiwi also explained that the GCC General Secretariat hosted the fourth trade and investment dialogue between the Cooperation Council countries and the United States, where experts discussed ways to facilitate trade and encourage investment. In conclusion of his speech, His Excellency stressed the significance of these joint meetings to achieve more cooperation and goals that serve Common interests on both sides.
