His Excellency Mr Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), stated that Their Majesties and Highnesses the leaders of the Cooperation Council countries pay great attention to the private sector, out of their keenness to strengthen economic integration between the member states within the framework of Gulf common economic action.


This came during HE the Secretary General’s participation in the consultative meeting between Their Excellencies the GCC Ministers of Commerce and Industry, and the heads of the councils of federations and chambers in the GCC countries, held on Thursday (September 14, 2023) in the city of Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman.

The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Mr Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in the Sultanate of Oman, who is the chairman of the current session, with the participation of Their Excellencies the GCC Ministers of Commerce and Industry and the councils of federations and chambers in the GCC countries.

HE the Secretary General indicated during his speech that the periodic consultative meeting aims to extend additional efforts to strengthen joint cooperation between the ministries of commerce and industry and the chambers of commerce in the GCC countries, with the aim of supporting and reinforcing the growth of the GCC economies, addressing the challenges and obstacles facing the GCC private sector and providing initiatives that serve it, considering its contribution to increasing and deepening economic integration among the GCC countries.

Additionally, His Excellency stated that during the meeting, the heads of the councils of federations and chambers were briefed on the topics that were discussed and reviewed in the Commercial Cooperation and the Industrial Cooperation committees’ meetings, including topics related to the common commercial and industrial field between the GCC countries, and the taken decisions that are aimed at contributing to supporting the private sector and removing obstacles to promote intra-regional trade. 

HE Mr Albudaiwi stressed that the GCC General Secretariat will make every effort to implement its obligations to resolve some outstanding issues and that it is always keen to support cooperation and joint coordination with the federations and chambers of the Cooperation Council countries.
