General Secretariat - Manama
His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), affirmed the strong connection between the GCC countries and the United Kingdom (UK) through strategic relationships and partnerships in all fields, adding that both sides are continuously working to enhance and develop these ties to contribute to the achievement of common interests.

This came during His Excellency’s meeting with His Excellency Lord Tariq Ahmad, Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and United Nations at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in the Bahraini capital, Manama, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, on the sidelines of his participation in the 19th edition of the IISS Manama Dialogue Conference.

During the meeting, they reviewed the latest developments in regional and international issues of common interest, especially the situation in the Gaza Strip and the serious Israeli violations against innocent people in the strip, as well as the impact of this crisis on regional and global security and stability.

Meanwhile, they shared views on a number of topics of common interest, including the progress of negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between the GCC and the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

Commenting further, His Excellency Mr Albudaiwi emphasised the importance of accelerating the pace of those negotiations and holding regular meetings between senior officials, technical teams, and other working groups to achieve the common goals of the strategic partnership between the GCC countries and the United Kingdom.
