  The 13th Periodic Meeting of the GCC Speakers of the Shura Councils, Council of Representatives, the Federal National Council, and the National Assembly

Their Excellencies, Speakers of the GCC Shura Councils, Council of Representatives, the Federal National Council, and the National Assembly held via visual communication the 13th periodic meeting on Tuesday, 21 July 2020. The meeting chaired by HE Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council in the United Arab Emirates.
HE the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf also participated in the meeting.
Speakers of the GCC Shura Councils, Council of Representatives, the Federal National Council, and the National Assembly discussed a number of issues and took the necessary decisions regarding them. The most important of which is cooperation and strengthening relations with a number of parliaments and international parliamentary unions, the GCC common issues, and the results of the seminar "The Role of Legislative Councils in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals".
They reviewed the recommendations of the 12th GCC Parliamentary Coordination and Foreign Relations Committee meeting. 
The meeting issued the following statement:
Their Excellencies, Speakers of the GCC Shura Councils, Council of Representatives, the Federal National Council, and the National Assembly held via visual communication the 13th periodic meeting on Tuesday, 21 July 2020. The meeting chaired by HE Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council in the United Arab Emirates. Participated in the meeting:

HE Dr. / Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf - Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf also participated in the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, their Excellencies expressed their sincere prayers to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - that Allah grant him a speedy recovery and their best wishes for his health and wellness. They also expressed their sincere prayers for a speedy recovery to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah - Emir of the State of Kuwait and their best wishes for his health and wellness.
Their Excellencies the GCC Speakers of Legislative Councils (the Shura Councils, Council of Representatives, the Federal National Council, and the National Assembly) recalled the immortal position of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed. Praising his good path and great contributions as one of the founders and supporters of the Gulf Cooperation Council and his role in achieving prosperity for his country and nation, and his efforts to establish the foundations of international peace and security. Defending the causes of his Arab and Islamic nation, and lost his departure as a wise leader who prevailed over logic, wisdom and balance in words and deeds. Praying for Allah to help His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to continue the path of comprehensive development in all tracks of human life.
Their Excellencies the GCC Speakers of Legislative Councils briefed on the agenda of their meeting and approved its items. They also reviewed the annual report of the chair of the 12th meeting of the GCC Speakers of Legislative Councils (the Shura Councils, Council of Representatives, the Federal National Council, and the National Assembly), Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Speaker of the Shura Council of Sultanate of Oman. They extended their greetings of gratitude and appreciation to His Excellency for the efforts and valuable contributions made during his tenure as chair of the 12th periodic meeting. They also extended their thanks and gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and HE Sheikh HE Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al ash-Sheikh. Speaker of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting the 12th periodic meeting; Which contributed to the success of those GCC joint meetings. 
Their Excellencies affirmed their keenness to support the process of cooperation and coordination among member states, in order to achieve the desired goals and objectives in support of the GCC joint work.
Their Excellencies also made a number of decisions regarding the issues on the meeting's agenda, the most important of which are:
1. They viewed the results of the seminar "The Role of Legislative Councils in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals". Moreover, expressed their deep thanks and appreciation to the Shura Council in the Sultanate of Oman for hosting and organizing the seminar, valuing the seminar's important results and recommendations, in order to achieve the hopes and aspirations of the peoples of the GCC states.
2. They selected the joint policies of GCC states for post Covid-19 to be the GCC common issue for 2020, which will be discussed in the framework of the councils ’work. The Federal National Council in the United Arab Emirates implements the activities and events related to this issue in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
3. They viewed the procedures and steps taken to enhance relations with parliaments, regional and international parliamentary unions, and directed the following:
- Entrust the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council in coordination with the Federal National Council - in the United Arab Emirates (the country of the presidency) to complete exchanges between the GCC councils and the European Parliament, and agree to the Federal National Council coordinating a meeting between the GCC legislative councils and the European Parliament.
- Coordinate with the Federal National Council (the State of the Presidency) to hold meetings between the GCC Legislative Councils and the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) on the margins of the Inter-Parlimentary Union Assembly.
 4. They praised the efforts of the GCC leaders and governments to address the emerging Corona pandemic, and the health and economic repercussions, and restore normalcy. They stressed the importance of accelerating the establishment of an integrated system and mechanisms for food, water, drug and health security among the GCC states, and seeking to explore new sources of growth and economic sustainability.
5. They exerted their best congratulations and blessings to HE Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf, on the high confidence of their Majesties and Highnesss leaders of the GCCC states bestowed on him by appointing him as the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Wishing him all success in his duties and responsibilities leading the GCC General Secretariat and continue the path of strengthening the GCC joint work to achieve the supreme goals of the Council.
At the conclusion of their meeting, the GCC Speakers of Legislative Councils (the Shura Councils, Council of Representatives, the Federal National Council, and the National Assembly) conveyed a letter expressing their thanks and appreciation to HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the current session of the Supreme Council, for his sincere efforts. Moreover, for the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in developing the foundations of the GCC joint work, and strive to enhance prospects for cooperation and joint coordination between the GCC states.
They also expressed their thanks and gratitude to HE  Saqr Ghobash - Speaker of the Federal National Council, and all employees of the Federal National Council, for their efforts in preparing and organizing the meeting, especially in light of the exceptional circumstances of the emerging Corona pandemic.
