  The 29th Meeting of the Joint Cooperation Committee between the GCC and the European Union

The Joint Cooperation Committee between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union held the 29th meeting via visual communication on Thursday, 25 June 2020. The meeting focused on exchanging experiences and views between officials and experts in the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union, and the appropriate mechanisms to enhance cooperation between the two sides in various fields.
The meeting chaired by Dr. Abdulaziz Hamad Al-Owaishek, GCC Assistant Secretary for Political Affairs and Negotiations, HE Fernando Gentilini, EU Director-General for the Middle East and North Africa of the European External Action Service(EEAS).
The meeting discussed the latest developments in cooperation between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union under the framework of the Joint Cooperation Agreement of 1988, and the precautionary measures applied by the two sides in the face of the new Corona pandemic and its economic impacts. They also discussed the efforts made by the two sides to promote trade and investment, the prospects for the resumption of free trade negotiations between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union, cooperation in the areas of energy, scientific research and innovation, the environment, digital transformation, combating terrorism and extremism, and cybersecurity.
