  The GCC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations participates in a Virtual Meeting on Red Sea Security

Dr. Abdulaziz Hamad Al-Owaishek, Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations, participated in a virtual meeting on Tuesday, 14 May 2020 on the security of the Red Sea and Horn of Africa region organized by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United States Institute of Peace.
The meeting discussed the security threats and economic challenges facing the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa region, the repercussions of the emerging Coronavirus and the global economic recession on the economy of this region.
The Assistant Secretary General stressed in his interventions the strategic importance the Gulf Cooperation Council attaches to the security of the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa, explaining the efforts made by the GCC to confront the spread of the emerging corona pandemic, and its economic and social effects. He also talked about the joint action plans agreed upon with the countries and organizations operating in the Horn of Africa, within the framework of the plan approved by the Gulf Cooperation Council in 2016 to enhance cooperation with the African continent.
