HE the GCCSG Discusses with the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs in the U.S. the Importance of Exerting Joint Efforts to Work Towards De-escalation in the Region

General Secretariat - Munich
His Excellency Mr Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC),  discussed with Her Excellency Dr. Celeste Wallander, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs in the United States of America, the joint efforts to work towards de-escalation in the region.

This meeting took place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, in the city of Munich, Federal Republic of Germany, on the sidelines of His Excellency's participation in the 60th Munich Security Conference.

During the meeting, His Excellency emphasised that the crisis in Gaza and the serious Israeli violations that accompanied it have caused unprecedented negative developments and repercussions in the region. This necessitates the convergence of all regional and international efforts to work towards an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, His Excellency stressed.

Several topics were discussed during the meeting, including ways to enhance defense cooperation between the GCC and the United States, as affirmed by the statement issued by the Joint Ministerial Meeting between the foreign ministers of the GCC countries and the United States in September 2023, expressing their determination to strengthen and build relations in all areas, including defense and security cooperation.

Views were also exchanged on a number of issues and files of concern in both regional and international arenas.
