  During his Meeting with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Yemen.. GCC Secretary General Underlines the Council's Determination to Exert all International Efforts Meant to Enhance Security and Stability in Brotherly Yemen

​His Excellency Mr. Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), received His Excellency Mr. Hans Grundberg, the Special Envoy of Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) for Yemen, today, Monday, February 6, 2023, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh.


At the outset of the meeting, HE Mr. Grundberg congratulated HE Mr. Albudaiwi on assuming his duties as Secretary General of the GCC, wishing him further success in his career.

Meanwhile, during the meeting, HE the Secretary General of the GCC underlined the Council's determination to exert all international efforts in order to enhance security and stability in brotherly Yemen, stressing the firm positions and decisions of the GCC which are meant to support the legitimacy in Yemen represented by the Presidential Leadership Council and the legitimate government to end the Yemeni crisis through a solution that is made in accordance with the three references, including the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and the Security Council Resolution No. 2216. Moreover, HE the Secretary General underscored the GCC's support for the UN's efforts in Yemen led by its Special Envoy, to reach the desired political solution in accordance with the three references. 

HE the Secretary General also stressed the importance of supporting the renewal of the truce which was sponsored by the UN and expanding its gains due to its positive impact on the lives of Yemenis in many respects, including humanitarian, economic and living conditions. 

Additionally, HE Mr. Albudaiwi indicated the need to intensify the efforts of the international community to exert pressure on the Houthi group to seriously engage in the peace process to put an end to the Yemeni crisis, and to comply with appeals of the international community to negotiate a comprehensive ceasefire with the Yemeni government, in preparation for the resumption of the political process under the patronage of the United Nations to reach a sustainable and just peace based on the three references.
