GCC- Mecca

Under the chairmanship of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, King of Saudi Arabia, and in the presence of their Majesties, Highnesses and Excellencies, leaders and representatives of the governments of Islamic countries, members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council HE Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani attended the opening session of the 14th Islamic Summit under the theme " Mecca Summit: Hand in Hand Towards the Future" held on Friday, 31 May 2019 at Al Safa Palace, Mecca.

In his opening speech, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques welcomed the leaders of the Islamic countries in Saudi Arabia at this summit, which he hoped would achieve "what we aspire to our Islamic nation of progress, security, peace and prosperity."
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques stressed that extremism and terrorism are one of the most serious problems faced by our Islamic nation and the world at large, stressing the need for concerted efforts to combat them, reveal their supporters and drying up their sources by all means available.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques noted that "During this holy month, commercial vessels near the territorial waters of the United Arab Emirates were subjected to terrorist sabotage operations, including two Saudi oil tankers, which poses a serious threat to the security and safety of regional and global maritime traffic, stressing that these terrorist acts dose not only target the Kingdom and the Gulf region, but also the security of navigation and the world’s energy supplies.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques affirmed that the Palestinian Cause is the cornerstone of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation work and the focus of our attention until the brotherly Palestinian people get all their legitimate rights guaranteed by the international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab peace initiative, reaffirming the unequivocal rejection of any measures that would prejudice the historical and legal status of Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques pointed out that the restructuring and development of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the reform of its organs have become an urgent necessity to confront the regional and international challenges that our nation is undergoing. Through its presidency of the summit, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia will endeavor to work with OIC member states and the OIC General Secretariat to achieve what the peoples of our Islamic nation aspire to.
