  The President of Iraq receives the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council

GCC- Baghdad

On the occasion of the visit of the GCC Secretary General to Iraq, the President of Iraq, Mr. Barham Ahmed Salih received on Wednesday, 24 April 2019, at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, HE the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani.

The President of Iraq welcomed the Secretary-General, noting the importance of developing the GCC- Iraq cooperation, for the benefit of the people of the region and the preservation of its security and stability. He stressed Iraq keenness to strengthen its political and economic relations on the regional and international levels, serving the higher interests of the Iraqi people, as well as the Iraqi leadership determination to establish strategic partnership with the GCC states.

For his part, Dr. Al-Zayani expressed his happiness to visit the Republic of Iraq and conveyed the greetings and appreciation of the leaders of the GCC states to the Iraqi President, and their emphasis on the importance of Iraq's unity, territorial integrity, security, stability and prosperity, and their good wishes for the Iraqi leadership to achieve the aspirations of the Iraqi people. The Secretary General congratulated His Excellency the Iraqi President on Iraq's success in defeating ISIS and on its security and stability, and praised the joint efforts and sincere desire to develop the brotherly relations and cooperation between the GCC and the Republic of Iraq in political, economic, social and development fields.

The meeting was attended by, Mr. Ali Shukri, Senior Adviser to the President of Iraq, Mr. Sherwan Al Waeli Advisor to the President of Iraq, Mr. Nizar Khairallah, Senior Undersecretary of Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Qahtan Taha Khalaf Al-Janabi, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Khalifa said Al-Abri, the GCC Assistant Secretary General for Economic and Development Affairs, and the Secretary General accompanying delegation.
