  Iraqi Foreign Minister receives the Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council

On the occasion of the visit of the GCC Secretary General to Iraq, the Iraqi Foreign Minister, Mr. Mohamed Ali Alhakim received on Wednesday, 24 April 2019, at MOFA headquarters, in Baghdad, HE the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister and the Secretary-General held a formal session of talks on the brotherly relations between the GCC and the Republic of Iraq, as well as areas of joint cooperation and means of enhancing them, in addition to the latest developments on the regional levels, and political issues of common interest, where they stressed the importance of developing the joint cooperation between the GCC and the Republic of Iraq in various fields to serve the common interests.

HE Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani and HE Mr. Mohamed Ali Alhakim signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of consultations between the GCC Secretariat and the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs that allows both sides to hold regular consultations on political issues of common concern, as well as strengthen the cooperation in the areas of economic, culture, youth and sports. This MOU will be implemented on the basis of a plan of action agreed upon by both sides.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Nizar Khairallah, Senior Undersecretary of Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Qahtan Taha Khalaf Al-Janabi, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Khalifa said Al-Abri, the GCC Assistant Secretary General for Economic and Development Affairs, and the Secretary General accompanying delegation.
