  The GCC Ministerial Council holds the 145th Preparatory Session for the 40th GCC Summit

Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Foreign Ministers of the GCC States held on Tuesday, 9 December 2019, at the GCC headquarters in Riyadh the 145th Preparatory Session for the 40th session of the Supreme Council, chaired by HE Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, the United Arab Emirates Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and the participation of HE Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
At the beginning of the meeting, their Highnesses and Excellencies the Foreign Ministers held the joint periodic meeting with the president and members of the Advisory Board of the Supreme Council, under the chairmanship of HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Yousef Al Harthi, Chairman of the Advisory Board this current session.
HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Yousef Al Harthi, Chairman of the Advisory Board read the report of the Advisory Board on the work of its 23rd session, and its views regarding the studies that the Supreme Council had previously assigned the Advisory Board to study.
The Ministerial Council started the 145th preparatory session for the 40th GCC Summit with an opening speech by, HE Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, in which he expressed his sincere thanks to the Kingdom for hosting the preparatory ministerial council meetings for the summit of the GCC Supreme Council in its 40th session, as well as to the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the General Secretariat for their distinguished performance and their tireless efforts to develop the work in the General Secretariat in accordance with the highest standards of quality and excellence.
He added that the Gulf Cooperation Council is an expression of the convergence of the will and aspirations of the leaders with the hopes of the peoples of the GCC States in establishing a system based on cooperation and agreement on policies and positions that enhance the security and stability of the region, contribute to advancing the comprehensive development to achieve stability, growth and prosperity for our States and the happiness of our peoples. As well as, establish sincere relations that derive its principles from our true religion, international covenants, and the statute of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in addition to mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs in a way that supports the common interest, cooperation and partnership.
In his speech, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council welcomed their Highnesses and Excellencies the Foreign Ministers of the GCC States, congratulating the United Arab Emirates for assuming the presidency of the 40th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and thanking the Sultanate of Oman for its generous and sincere efforts during its presidency of the 39th session. He also thanked the Chairman and members of the Drafting Committee for their efforts in preparing for the Ministerial Council meeting.
Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani stated that Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Foreign Ministers discussed the topics on the agenda of the preparatory session, including the GCC Secretariat report on what has been implemented regarding the decisions of the Supreme Council and the Ministerial Council and what it has been accomplished in achieving integration and cooperation in the GCC joint work; In addition to the reports and recommendations of the competent councils, ministerial committees and the General Secretariat in preparation for submitting them to the 40th session of the GCC Supreme Council for guidance.
He said that Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Foreign Ministers expressed their pride in holding the 40th GCC Summit of their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of the GCC States, may Allah protect, in Riyadh; expressing the hope that it will be a fruitful and constructive summit, full of achievements and effective decisions that will enhance the process of cooperation and achieve the aspirations of the GCC citizens for more interdependence, solidarity and integration.
