  The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council launches the Spatial Platform for the GCC Sustainable Development Goals

The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani launched the Spatial Platform for the GCC Sustainable Development Goals at a ceremony held on Wednesday, 9 October 2019, at the GCC-STAT headquarters in Muscat, Oman.
The ceremony was attended by, Hamad Rashid Al Marri, the Assistant Secretary-General for Legislative and Legal Affairs, Abdulmalik Al Sheikh, Head of the GCC Economic Affairs, Khalid Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, Director-General of GCC Economic and Development Affairs Authority, Dr. Khamis Saleh Al Balushi, the Director General of the Gulf Network for Quality Assurance of Higher Education and a number of the officials and senior officials of the GCC Secretariat, and the GCC-STAT.
In his opening speech, Saber Al Harbi, Director General of the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf said that the launching of the spatial platform for the GCC sustainable development indicators is part of the Centre's steps in diversifying the methods and means of disseminating and making the data available, in order to monitor the progress made towards achieving the GCC Sustainable Development Goals and reflect the significant development efforts undertaken by the GCC States in various fields.
The Director General explained that the Center has updated the data presentation methods using visual representation through films, geospatial and infographics in order to be approachable to different users. He pointed out that the platform provides official statistics including (100) indicators for the Sustainable Development Goals, which are updated periodically in cooperation with Member States.
In his speech, The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani praised the blessed journey of the GCC Statistical Center thanks to the support of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman, Chairman of the current session of the GCC Supreme Council, and fellow leaders of the GCC States, may God protect them.
Dr. Al-Zayani commended the distinguished efforts exerted by the Center's staffs that were able to launch the spatial platform for the GCC sustainable development goals. He expressed his confidence that the GCC States will be able to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030, as they achieved in 2010 the Millennium Development Goals for the year 2015.
The Secretary General expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Director General of the GCC-STAT and his staff and the Ministerial Committee for Statistical Work for their efforts to activate and support the GCC-STAT.
