The GCC become a permanent observer member of the "TRIPS Council"

GCC – Geneva

Under the directives of HE The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani, the GCC achieved a new international standing by being announced on Friday, 9 November 2018, a permanent observer member of The WTO Council for Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS Council), that monitors implementation of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (the TRIPS Agreement).

This announcement comes within the TRIPS Council meeting held on 8-9 November 2018, in Geneva, reflects the important role played by the GCC, and the contributions it has made since 2012. In addition to the constructive role it plays on technical cooperation and capacity-building benefiting Intellectual property authorities in all GCC countries.

It is worth mentioning that this achievement was accomplished as a result of the continuous support of HE The Secretary-General since 2012, and the tireless efforts of the Patent Office, Directorate of Economic Integration affiliated to the Economic Sector, and the GCC UN Mission in Geneva.
